I think they offer a lot of value if your budget is ~$1500 or less. The dual boiler machines in that price range have questionable long term reliability whereas the E61 HX machines are built to professional standards and are easily repaired with widely available parts. If your budget is $2500+ by all means go dual boiler IMO.Get Price
Earlier versions are referred to as PRE-Millennium. If you're not sure which version you have, you can measure the exterior of your grouphead piston cylinder. The PRE-Millennium is 50mm; Millennium is 60mm. PLEASE NOTE: If you have a very early Pavoni with a grouphead that screws into the boiler (rather than the current diamond-shape flange Get Price
Jul 31, 2015 · Thanks for that. There are quite a number of single boiler machines with E-61 group head that are not HX machines (eg Diadema Perfetta). I guess I was really asking if you could pull more consistent shots from a single boiler with PID or with E-61, only taking those two factors into account.Get Price
Dec 28, 2021 · A thermosiphon sort of works with the relatively low temperature differential (maybe 5-10°C for a dual boiler, compared to around 30°C below 123°C for a 1.2 bar steam boiler HX), well enough that I don't know any manufacturer that has a circulation pump. My guess is that the technology will come from two fronts.Get Price
There are less moving parts with and HX having half as many boilers as a DB, but as I stated before, good retail support makes this a less significant issue in many cases. There are also more dual boiler machines on the market today, as it seems to be what the market prefers, with HX's being slightly out of favor as of recent.Get Price
Nov 18, 2017 · They were all PID free. Well calibrated e-61 single boilers are brilliant shot machines and take it to the next level. The elephant in the room though is the Simonelli Oscar II and they'll be available at under $1.5k (sponsor Casa Espresso). It will make life tough for the e-61 single boiler gear.Get Price
Aug 31, 2012 · The far point of the group (the bit you lock your portafilter into) reaches about 90 degrees when brew-able in a HX machine and will be a little cooler in a non-HX machine. Any machine whether single boiler, HX or dual boiler, should always have the group (where the portafilter locks in), at a lower temperature than the brew water.Get Price
In 1961, the first E-61 espresso machine was built, whose simple and ingenious principle of permanent thermal circulation in the brewing head governs the espresso machine landscape until today. The first real innovation since then is the multi-boiler technology, which decouples coffee preparation from the steam area by means of separate kettles.Get Price

Feb 10, 2019 · The heat up times of a DB or HX E61 are probably not systematically different, around 30 minutes if the controls are meechanical. The Lelit's PID/computer overheats the brew boiler at startup to get a faster warmup of the group; and this can certainly be done with any DB or HX system providing it uses a PID rather than mechanical controls.Get Price
Jun 10, 2013 · Both HX's and DB's work well for pulling shots for multiple people. Something to consider is that reading how to do something quite often makes it sound much more difficult than it really is. A cooling flush on an HX isn't that big of a deal. Again, see if you get some first hand experience with a local person's HX.Get Price
E-61 Commercial Group: An E-61 commercial group brings you not one, but two steps closer to professional-level drinks. You'll get pre-infusion, which boosts the taste of your espresso by guaranteeing an even extraction, and increased thermal stability from the water circulating nonstop between the brew head and the boiler.Get Price
May 19, 2016 · For me, dual boiler, PID, and build quality were all of top importance. If that's the same for you, then the Pro300 is your machine. I don't know if I would call the Pro300's steam and water knobs 'fragile', rather befitting of a machine at a ~$1500 USD price point. If you want a machine that is (subjectively) more attractive on the counter Get Price
Dec 07, 2009 · I would call these machines you want to compare "single-boiler-HX" or just "HX" with "E/61" group - a level up from the home standard 5 years ago. Today, you might say through Chris' work, the industry has many competing designs in this class. At the time, dual boiler was not an option in the semi-pro or higher-end home market.Get Price
Aug 09, 2017 · The issue, when comparing the R58 to other dual boiler espresso machines, is really whether or not the R58 price will give you more for the increased price. There are other dual boilers out there for less. You can get a Mini Vivaldi for $1,795 ($1,005 cheaper!) or a Quick Mill QM67 for $1,995 ($805 savings).Get Price
Comparing Dual Boiler and Hx E-61 based design. If I understand machine design properly, the only (biggest) difference between a Hx and DB design in a E-61 machine is that the DB is free to set the brew and steam boilers at whatever temps the person wants, whereas the Hx always keeps an offset difference between the water available to the brew Get Price

He put the original design on an espresso machine called the Faema E61. Ernesto named the grouphead design E61 because there was a solar eclipse in 1961, so E61 is short for Eclipse of 1961. The design uses a thermosiphon heating circuit to pull water from the boiler to the grouphead and back to the boiler.Get Price
May 06, 2015 · A dual pre-infusion system is built into all E61 based machines that presoaks the grinds just prior to brewing and assists with minimizing some channeling issues. The beauty of the copper boiler coupled with the E61 Group lies in its heat exchange functionality; allowing home baristas to brew and steam all at the same time.Get Price

May 01, 2009 · The Mini's design is easy to fill without having to move the machine. Secondly, given my lack of experience, I felt I could get up to speed much quicker with a dual boiler design, allowing me to learn more about what's going into the cup than how to get it there. So far this has worked pretty well.Get Price
Nov 06, 2021 · Larger boiler. The GCP has a very small boiler, intrashot temperature stability does not exist, I feel like it lacks steam power when making milk for 2 drinks at once. A larger boiler should address all these issues. Why SBDU rather than HX or dual boiler some might ask: 90% of my output is straight espresso.Get Price

This design tends to be a little more affordable, and its heat-up time is usually shorter. Depending on the size of the boilers in question, though, a heat exchange boiler may be slower in a side-by-side steaming comparison with a dual boiler machine.
